Upstart Yankee is a model of soundness and perseverance. Although he did not start as a two-year-old, he debuted as a three-year-old at Del Mar Racecourse in 2022. Since then, he has raced 39 times with five wins, nine seconds and four third-place finishes and career earnings of $100k. All of his races through July 2026 have been in California.
Upstart Yankee was claimed by Doug O’Neil from Royal Victory Thoroughbreds in July 2024 at Del Mar and then claimed by Billy McLean later that same year.
In July 2026, Royal Victory repurchased Upstart Yankee privately as a seven-year-old. While his best racing days are behind him, he will race at Emerald Downs during the summer of 2026.
Upstart Yankee was foaled on May 23, 2019 and out of the mare, West Kentucky (by Yankee Victor). He was originally purchased by Royal Victory Thoroughbreds during the 2020 WTBOA Auction.
His Sire, Upstart is by leading stallion Flatter and is the sire of Sire of G1W Zandon, and GSWs, Trademark, Kathleen O., and Prerequisite. He stands in Kentucky for $30,000
